If we are getting married in the Brazos Valley do we have to have the license issued in the Brazos Valley?
No, you may get your license in any county in Texas for a Texas marriage.
I have my heart set on an outdoor wedding, but am nervous about the weather. What is the answer!?
Outdoor ceremonies and receptions can both be gorgeous events, but if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate, it has the potential of being a disaster! If an outdoor ceremony or outdoor reception is what you have dreamed of, don’t change your plans. There are always back up options that can be explored before you get to that day. As long as you accept that Texas weather is subject to change at any moment, you will be happy with our choice. Explore the alternate options that the sites have in case of poor weather and make sure to take into account the maximum capacity and reservation requirements. Also, keep in mind that tents can always be rented. It is possible to have floors and walls put in tents to create much more of an indoor space if necessary. Set a time that you will make the decision of indoors or outdoors. Make sure you note on your invitations so that your guests may dress appropriately.
We will be offering a full bar at our reception and I don’t want to run out of alcohol. How much should I purchase per person?
For a reception of 100 guests with a full bar, the alcohol listed below would be about right.
Beer – 1 keg or 4 cases (a keg is one type of beer, if you offer bottles you can offer several different types)
White Wine – 1 case
Red Wine – 1 case
Vodka – 6 liters
Whiskey – 5 liters
Scotch – 2 liters
Rum – 2 liters
Gin – 2 liters
Make sure when offering a full bar that you have numbers of cabs or a shuttle service for guests who may consume too much.
What is the proper way for us to cut our wedding cake?
Make sure you are in good position for the photographer and have a plate, fork and napkin handy. The groom will place his right hand over the bride’s hand on the cake server and cut a piece from the bottom layer. When that piece is sliced and on the plate, take a piece and each feed the other by fork or hand. If you have strong feelings about smashing cake in your spouse’s face, discuss that before this point!
How many guests should I actually expect to attend?
You can estimate about 80% of the invited guests will be able to attend. That can vary depending on how far the guests will have to travel.
When should the save the dates and invitations be mailed?
Save the dates should go out six to nine months before the wedding. If your guests will have to make travel arrangements, especially air, they will need to know well in advance and will appreciate the information early. It is a good idea to include your wedding website on the save the dates so that your guests can get a lot of information. Invitations should go out six to eight weeks before the wedding. Be aware of your RSVP date and make sure your guests have enough time to get their response back and you have enough time to notify the caterer. Allowing for a cushion in there is a good idea because you can always contact those who have not responded.
I can’t decide if I want a full head table, what are my options?
For wedding party seating you have a lot of options. You can seat everyone at the same table and have a banquet style seating arrangement (rectangular tables) or have round tables arranged near each other. Take into consideration that it is a good idea to seat the dates of the wedding party with them so that no one feels left out if they don’t know other guests. If you would rather allow the wedding party to sit where they feel comfortable, you can always go with a sweetheart table that will seat just the bride and groom. This table can be a small round or small square table.
